Following the country’s senior national team, Leone Stars 1-0 defeat to Ethiopia in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier, Sierra Leone has dropped three places to 114th position from 111th in the latest world football governing body, FIFA monthly ranking released on Thursday September 20th 2018.

Before the Ethiopia defeat at the Hawassa Stadium, Sierra Leone was ranked a place above Kenya who are the biggest movers and now sit 107 after earning 1204 points, while Ethiopia despite the victory stays 149.

Group F leaders, Black Stars of Ghana dropped six places to occupy 51st from 45th. In Africa classification, Leone Stars are ranked 28th best team with Tunisia leading the pecking order.

Sierra Leone highest ever rankings came in August 2014, when they were ranked 50th globally. Meanwhile, Belgium joined 2018 World Cup winners, France at the top – the first time two teams have shared the top spot.
