Guinea’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Foday Camara, has hailed the leadership and successes of President Ernest Bai Koroma, describing him as one of the best leaders in Africa that has worked hard to develop his country.

Ambassador Camara was speaking during the weekly government press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communications’ conference room yesterday.

He opined that if Africa had six presidents who govern in accordance with President Koroma’s style of leadership, the continent would have been transformed, and called on citizens in the Mano River Union basin to respect their leaders.

Ambassador Camara commended President Koroma for his leadership role during the Ebola outbreak, despite its negative impact in the Mano River Union countries.

The Guinean envoy disclosed that presidential and parliamentary elections in Guinea have been scheduled to take place on 11 October this year, adding that the campaign period for the elections will start on 11 September and end on 9 October.

He told journalists that eight candidates have so far declared their intension to contest the presidency, significantly lower than in the last election when over 24 candidates vied to succeed military strongman Dadis Camara.

He said President Alpha Conde of Guinea had issued a decree on 31 August calling on all Guineans at home and abroad to participate in the electioneering process.

Ambassador Camara appealed to Guineans to remain peaceful and law abiding as elections are conducted for citizens to exercise their franchise to elect their leaders, noting that they should spend time to properly scrutinise all the eight candidates that are vying to become president.
