Amadou Bakayoko snubs Sierra Leone

Coventry City striker Amadou Bakayoko is believed to have turn-down the call-up to the Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars for last Sunday’s 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with Ethiopia for an opportunity to play for the Holland national team.

The striker was one the three England-based players invited by Sierra Leone coach, John Keister for last Sunday’s match but he decided to pull-out with not better reasons given.

However, the two others; Bristol City goalkeeper Alhaji Sesay and Osman Kakay of Queens Park Rangers decided to honor the call.

According to Coventry Telegraph, the 22-year-old striker is believed to have a strong affinity with the Netherlands after moving to Holland as a youngster.

“It was initially reported that the Sky Blues player would miss Sunday’s televised League One clash at the Kassam Stadium but Bakayoko has turned down the opportunity, it’s understood not for the first time, to represent his country of birth,” the website report.

“Although understood to be proud of his African roots, Bakayoko is believed to have a strong affinity with the Netherlands after moving to Holland as a youngster where he began his youth career in Dutch football, before moving to England as a teenager and signing scholarship forms for the Saddlers.”
