In appreciation to God for a peaceful electioneering process in the country, the National Prayer Mobilisation for Sierra Leone (NPM S.L), comprising Christian faith and other denominations, has organised a National Thanksgiving Service for Sierra Leone at the Flaming Bible Church, Syke Street in Freetown.

In his message, Bishop Dr. Frederick Abu Sidique Koroma said the church coming together to give thanks after God answered their prayers was of great importance.

“The way things were going before the election was terrible and everybody was thinking that there was going to be war in the country. Some people even left the country and went abroad. It was for that reason we came together and prayed for the nation’s peace that we are all enjoying today,” Bishop Koroma said.

He preached about the importance of thanksgiving and referenced the story of Jonah in the Bible, who was saved from the belly of the fish because he promised to give thanksgiving.

He prayed for the country to be free from demonic marine spirit and went ahead to offer prayers for President Julius Maada Bio and his team. He prayed for God’s divine guidance and wisdom in the discharge of President Bio’s duties.

On his part, Rev Martha Chigozie, Head of Protocol at the National Prayer Mobilisation for Sierra Leone (NPM S.L) said, “the purpose for a thanksgiving was to continue to ask God to guide the current government and all officials charged with different responsibilities.”

The thanksgiving ceremony, held on Sunday 8th July, was chaired by Minister of Works and Public Asset Raymond Desouza George a.k.a. Paparay. Many of the speakers at the event spoke about the importance of peace and national security.

They speakers claimed that the absence of violence is peace, while acknowledging that the acceptance of peace comes from the inner self.
