As Muslims across the world prepare to observe the holy month of Ramadan,  Africa Muslim Agency (AMA) in Sierra Leone has donated food items to some 4,200 families in Freetown, Kenema, Makeni and Lungi, worth Le920 million.

The donation ceremony which was held at the AMA Office at Kossoh Town in the Western Rural District, witnessed by Muslims from across Freetown.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, AMA Country Director Neghra Nadjib reiterated that 2,000 Muslims from Freetown would benefit from the donation, 1,100 in Kenema and another 600 and 500 in Lungi and Makeni respectively.

He said the donation was funded by the AMA head office in Kuwait, noting that “This is not the first time the agency has been donating to Muslims in Sierra Leone. We have been providing support to Muslims at every start of Ramadan since 1985.”

The country director used the event to announce that they would soon change from AMA to Direct Aid, so that Muslims and Christians would both benefit from their support as everybody is equal in Islam.

Nadjib said that during the outbreak of the Ebola and mudslide and flooding, the agency provided support to the country, adding that they have been rendering assistance in the area of education and health, among others.

A beneficiary who is resident in Calaba Town, Masella Sankoh, thanked the agency for their timely support, especially at a time when food items are very expensive, adding that as Muslims, they have been getting such support every year at the start of Ramadan.
