Murder accused, Hassan Deen Bangura (alias LA) was yesterday ordered to be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre by Magistrate Santigie Bangura, presiding at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1
The accused person was arraigned on one count of murder contrary to law.
According to Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Theresa M. Bangura, the accused person on Monday, 2nd April 2018, along Ascension Town Road in Freetown, murdered one Alfred Gibson.
In his testimony, Detective Police Constable 9823 Turay B., attached to the Criminal Investigations Department at Central Police Station recalled that on the date of the alleged murder, the complainant arrested and brought the accused person to the station with the knife he allegedly used to stab Alfred Gibson to death.
“I and DPC 13260 Koroma J. (scene of crime officer) left the station to visit the Connaught Hospital Mortuary. When we arrived at the mortuary the complainant identified the remains of the deceased which had blood all over his body and a wound on his left side of his chest. On the same day, we obtained statement from the complainant and witnesses,” he testified.
The witness said that on Tuesday, 3rd April 2018, a postmortem request was sent to the Chief Pathologist at Connaught Hospital to ascertain the cause of death of the victim
He further revealed that on Friday, 6th April 2018, the postmortem examination was conducted on the remains of the deceased in his presence and two other officers, and that the death certificate was handed over to the bereaved family, while a copy was handed over to them.
“On the 4th May 2018, I and Detective Sergeant 7331 Sesay M. charged the accused with the offense of murder contrary to law,” he said.
The accused person is represented by lawyer M. Sesay.
The matter was adjourned to Monday, 21st May.
