The remains of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Executive committee member, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Western Area Football Association (WAFA), Foday Turay, was finally laid to rest on Frida, May 4, 2018, at the Kissy Road Cemetery in Freetown.
Known as the constitutional king of Sierra Leone football, the late football administrator passed away on Tuesday, May st, few hours after concluding meeting with football authorities at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown.
His remains was taken to the Atlantic Hall of the Siaka Steven Stadium where condolence messages from both former Ministers of Sports, Paul Kamara and Ahmed Khanou were made.
In his message, former Sports Minister, Paul Kamara said if the football family should and must copy the attitude and attribute of the late Foday Turay, they would enjoy everlasting peace in football.
Earlier, former SLFA aspirant, Rodney Michael, said he was speechless.
“He had been a best and close friend in all sector.Every conversation with Foday started and ended with football whenever I called him. Foday Turay spoke very little and shows great passion for football development,” Rodney Michael said.
Former SLFA Secretary General, Alimu Bah said: “Let us don’t mourn Foday Turay rather we galvanise all that he stood for and give football a volte face from its current demise. He was a friend, confidante and probably one of the few genuine persons in our tumultuous sport, may his soul rest in peace. My heart goes to the strong woman.
President of Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL), Frank Magnus Cole in his reaction over the WAFA chairman death said: “Oh this life! Deepest condolence to the bereaved Turay family may Foday Turay rest in peace till we meet on that beautiful shore.”
The late Foday Turay was elected president of WAFA on Friday February 3rd, 2017 after defeating Samuel Blamoh Roberts by securing 52 votes, while the latter registered 26 votes.
The late seasoned sports administrator was Vice Chairman of WAFA under the Abdul Kaniseu regime and was also appointed as the General Manager of Sierra Leone Premier League side, Central Parade FC (CPFC).
