Sierra Leone will join eight (8) other nations to battle for the Union of West African Federations (UFOA) Zone A U-17 championship, which is expected to be staged in September in Dakar, Senegal.

According to UFOA President, Augustine Senghor, they were waiting for the confirmation of Senegal, adding that at the end of the tournament, teams will qualify for the U-17 African Cup of Nations scheduled for 2019.

“We were waiting for the confirmation of the State of Senegal and it has fallen recently,” said the leader of the A-zone of UFOA, also president of the Senegalese Football Federation.

The tournament finalists will represent UFOA Zone A at the finals of the U-17 CAN, which will be held in Tanzania and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has  already decided last October to organise the qualifiers of the 2019 edition of the CAN under 17 in its geographical areas.

CAF’s decision was taken at a meeting of the general secretaries of the zonal unions at CAF headquarters in Cairo.  The tournament scheduled for September will be attended by teams from the nine countries that make up this zone: Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
