“Education is the bedrock of development,” said AMR Gold Chief Finance Manager, Mohamed Sultan Daffae, noting that his company believes education is the engine of growth “which is why we are now transporting education to deprived villages as a way of supporting government’s Agenda for Prosperity and the Millennium Development Goals”.
Daffae, who was speaking yesterday during an unannounced visit to inspect the ongoing construction work, told his audience at Kayigrana village, Sella Limba Chiefdom, that AMR Gold is building the primary school to empower and capacitate the community. He said the company’s Directors are convinced that education is the best legacy AMR Gold can leave for generations yet unborn.
According to him, the exploration outfit is constantly monitoring the construction work so that pupils will start using the facility by the next school year. He encouraged the community people to monitor the construction work and continue supporting the company to do more, as it is only education that can help capacitate their children to contribute to nation building.
On his part, the Project Geologist of AMR, Foday Fofanah, said: “If you want to live a happy life and enjoy the good things the world has to offer, you certainly need to get educated.”
He reiterated that a great job and a good social reputation are few of the many benefits of being an educated person, noting: “Education is a must for a promising and secured future and a stable life.”
Fofanah promised that the company will do more to support the Government of Sierra Leone for sustainable development.
Lauding the ongoing school project, the Chief of Kayigrana village, Decor Turay, said AMR Gold has made him proud, adding that the school project is a demonstration of the company’s will-power to bring sustainable development to his people.
“I was short of words from the very day that AMR Gold started the construction work,” said Chief Turay. He went further to disclose that they have never been opportune to have a bud building or even a makeshift structure to be used as a school.
According to him, their children have been walking long distance to and from school on a daily basis.
Chief Turay said if completed, the school will become the first concrete building in Kayigrana. On behalf of his people, he thanked AMR Gold directors, management and staff for supporting his community.
