Mercury International Charitable Foundation on Thursday, 26th April, donated a cheque of Le30 million and fifty (50kg) bags of rice to the Milton Margai School for the Blind at Wilkinson Road in Freetown.

Speaking during the ceremony to hand over the donation, Chairman Mercury International Foundation, Samir Hassan Hassaniyeh, said they have been going to the blind school for a long time and that every year they have been providing goodies to the school as part of their corporate responsibility.

“Today, we are here to help the needy children. We have been coming here for a long time now between 8-10 years to see how the children are carrying on with their lives,” he said.

Mr. Hassaniyeh further disclosed that they would replicate the donation elsewhere.

“On Monday, we are going to the school for the deaf. Wednesday again, we’re going to St. George’s home and on Friday Cheshire home, among others,’’Mr. Yansanyeh said.

Principal of the Milton Margai School for the Blind, Sallieu Turay, expressed thanks and appreciation to the foundation and stated that the latter have been providing help to the school over the years, apart from the government.

“I’m happy for this kind gesture. It’s not easy for us to feed a total of 80 children three times a day,” he said.
