The National Commission for Democracy (NCD) Sierra Leone has in a press release issued yesterday, Wednesday, 25 April, expressed grave worries about the current state of affairs in the country, especially happenings in the legislative arm of government.

“Pursuant to its mandate of creating a new political culture and attitude that will lead to good governance, the management of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) Sierra Leone is very worried about the current state of affairs in the country in relation to the legislative arm of government and the rest of the governance situation in country,” the release states.

The NCD says the current reality in the governance of the state, especially with an unsettled House of Parliament, occasioned by the power play between the office of the Speaker of Parliament and Clerk of Parliament, coupled with the injunctions from the High Court of Sierra Leone barring some members of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone from participating in the proceedings is lamentable.

“What is happening now in the nation of Sierra Leone is full of potential to affect the democratic gains made so far in the governance of the State,” the release states.

The commission calls on all well-meaning Sierra Leoneans to adhere to the due process in the country and to sincerely work in the best interest of this nation.

The management of the NCD also urges all and sundry to avoid any situation that will derail the nation’s peace as so much is dependent on the atmosphere of peace for meaningful development to take place.
