The new democratically elected President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio has attracted world leaders at the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London during a cocktail reception at the Sky Garden, hosted by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rt. Hon Theresa May, MP, on the eve of the official opening of the Commonwealth Summit.
President Bio was warmly welcomed by his colleague Heads of State who admired his youthful disposition. Already, with news of his recent actions against indiscipline, economic prudence and curbing wastage in governance, President Bio was commended by many of his colleagues who assured of goodwill and support.
Since his arrival at the Commonwealth Summit, President Bio has used the opportunity to assure his colleagues that his new government would improve on bilateral relationships.
Many observers at the Commonwealth Summit praised the people of Sierra Leone for the election of President Bio, which they described as “very refreshing for Sierra Leone’s international reputation”.
Heads of State at the cocktail reception that President Bio had informal discussions with were Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, and Adama Barrow of The Gambia, among others.
During the cocktail reception, First Lady Mrs. Fatima Bio also used the opportunity to have informal discussions with other First Ladies.
President Bio was accompanied by Prof. David J. Francis, Chairman Governance Transition Team to the Commonwealth Summit in London.
