Vice President of Sierra Leone, Victor Bockarie Foh, has told supporters of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) at their party headquarters in Freetown that as a law-abiding party they should accept the outcome of the March 7 polls, which is currently in favour of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party after more than half of the presidential result has been announced.
“The APC is a law-abiding party. We are under the law and not above the law. We only want you (supporters) to know that the APC is not complacent. We are trying to see how we would entice Sam Sumana for the runoff. In politics, we don’t have permanent places, we have permanent people. Our interest is to maintain power and we can do that if we get Sam Sumana. He is our brother and friend, he is not our enemy,” he said.
He assured their supporters that the party was very comfortable with the result as their aim was to win the election on first ballot “and we have worked assiduously towards that, but if that does not happen let ensure we win in the run off.”
“The APC already has the parliament under our control and according to our own figures from the APC collation centre, we have about 71% plus or minus and that is a comfortable lead. But we don’t have the power to announce result that is why we waiting on NEC. While we wait, I appeal to all political parties, including the APC, that in the interest of peace we are only interested in free, fair, transparent and credible elections result,” he said.
However, 75% of the official presidential result announced by NEC puts the SLPP standard bearer, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, in a slender lead.
The mood in and around the hitherto boisterous APC headquarters has been gloomy since Sunday, with few supporters around seen in few groups pondering over the outcome of the crucial election.
The meeting yesterday could be described as one aimed at boosting the morale of their supporters as everyone waits for the final official announcement by NEC boss Mohamed N’fah Ali Conteh.
