Political Affairs Minister and house help battle in court
February 28, 2018 By Hassan Gbassay Koroma
Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Madam Nanette Thomas, yesterday appeared in the Freetown Magistrate Court to be cross-examined by her house help over an alleged missing $12,000 at her residence.
The accused, Kandeh Sesay, was charged with one count of larceny by servant Larceny Act of 1916.
The prosecution alleges that the accused, being a servant at the home of the minister, in January 2018 broke into her drawer and stole the sum of $12,000.
It could be recalled that on the previous hearing, the complainant testified in court that the stolen money was given to her to pay rent.
According to her, the day the money was given to her, the accused helped her with plastic bag to wrap the money before she put it in her drawer for safe keeping, in presence of the accused.
She told the court that she later realised that the money was missing and that when she asked the accused he denied knowledge of it initially, but later admitted taking it.
She testified further that the accused later took her to where he kept the money but could only recover the sum of $8,000.
Ms. Thomas told the court that she then reported the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department where she made statement.
The matter continues.
