Supporters of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) yesterday conducted their last and final campaign rally in Freetown ahead of the March 7th elections.
The jubilant and spirited supporters processed through the streets of Freetown, chanting slogans and calling for a change of government.
Speaking on African Young Voices television, Women’s Leader of the relatively new politically party, Mrs. Isata Jabbie Kabbah noted that: “We want to see peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible elections come March 7th.”
She charged that the educational sector has been broken and that NGC presidential aspirant Dr. Kandeh Yumkella would be in a better position to fix it after he wins the March 7th poll.
Campaign Spokesperson of the party, Dr. Julius Spencer, noted that he joined the NGC because: “I have confidence in Dr.Kandeh Yumkella and the people around him and I absolutely believe that when he assumes office this country would be transformed in the shortest possible time.”
He charged that one of the major pitfalls of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) government is leadership and corruption, stating that by blocking leakages the country would definitely move forward in terms of development.
He noted that the NGC is here to stay permanently and that they are convinced to win many seats in parliament to influence the decision of government.
Mayoral Candidate of the party in Freetown, Samuel Itam, expressed optimism that he would win the election because “everywhere I go people want change.”
Chairman and Leader of the party, Dr. Dennis Bright noted that the destiny of the country lies in the hands of NGC and that through the personality of their presidential, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, they would transform the country and avail opportunities for all.
Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, Andrew K. Keili emphasised that: “We have to change the status of this country and I want to assure you all that we would win this elections.”
Popular Sierra Leonean U.S.-based hip-hop star, Amara Turay alias Kao De Nero thrilled the crowd to his lyrics as he urged young voters to reject the status quo and usher in change by voting Dr. Yumkella president.
The rally climaxed with the introduction of Dr. Yumkella, who took the podium to thunderous applause by his supporters. The erstwhile United Nations energy boss vowed to put an end to fifty-six years of corruption and mismanagement under successive governments and pledged to restore hope, opportunity and transformation in the country.
Dr. Yumkella said that massive corruption by the current administration and their willful neglect of education and wellbeing of the masses was a serious indictment on the Koroma-led administration, justifying their rejection in the ballot box.
Accompanied by his charming wife, Philomena, Dr. Yumkella exuded energy and showed great exuberance as he danced and sang to party slogans that resonate with their teeming young supporters.
