Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) on Saturday ended a week-long beginners training workshop for referees and judges.

The course, which attracted over 25 participants from across the country, was designed to help build the capacity of officials of the association ahead of what they described as ‘hectic boxing year’.

According to Tejan Kamara, said he was happy to be part of the training which was an addition to what was learnt in 2002.

“This is a complete refresher course and very good for active referees. There are new updates which will be used and we are happy for such course,” Kamara said.

Even the Sport Minister, Ahmed Khanou, was impressed with the Boxing Association, stating that they started the 2018 year on a very good footing with such course.

He said: “This is very important as these referees will build their capacity and during a bout they will have to decide professionally who wins, so that is why the course was important because these officials need to know the rules and regulation of the sport.”

The participants were taught on technical aspect of boxing and other world boxing federation, AIBA rules.
