The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) yesterday opened a Book of Condolence in honour of its former President and Member of Parliament of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), representing Constituency 71 in the Bo district, Hon. Frank Kposowa.

Hon. Kposowa, 69, met his untimely death in a gruesome road accident on January 11, around Camp Charlie, Mile 91, after a government bus that was coming from Pujehun lost control and ran into his vehicle.

The ceremony was witnessed by a host of senior journalists and other dignitaries, including Minister of Information and Communications Alhaji Alpha Kanu, Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo and President of the Veteran Journalists Union Christo Johnson.

SLAJ President Kelvin Lewis described the late Hon. Kposowa as a kind hearted individual who was willing and ready to help even at the last minute.

“We never knew we are going to lose Hon. Kposowa to eternity to such a gruesome road accident. His death has left a sad taste in our minds,” he said and added that he was a man everyone would love to be around.

Also, former SLAJ President Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo said: “He was a good writer and always loved to be a journalist to make good friends. My relationship with him spanned over 30 years.”

According to Hon. Kargbo, when the war was raging in Sierra Leone the former lawmaker refused to run away even when he was humiliated by rebels, and that he was among the few who published the news when late President Siaka Stevens decided to leave office.

On behalf of government, Minister of Information Alhaji Alpha Kanu described Hon. Kposowa as friendly and that he made his mark in parliament even as a member of the opposition party.

Journalists and close friends of the late Hon. Kposowa will have the opportunity to sign the Book of Condolence until Wednesday 24. A memorial mass will be held on Friday 26 January at St. Francis Immaculate Church in Bo, with another mass and burial the following day at Penduma village.
