There was wild jubilation in the village of Massessebeh in the Tonkolili District after President Ernest Bai Koroma visited the area to celebrate with the locals the end of what many believe could be the last quarantine of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.

More than 500 people, the entire population of the village of Massessebeh, had been quarantined. It was triggered by a man who absconded from quarantine in Freetown in order to visit his mother at the end of Ramadan.

He fell ill and infected two other people there. But the village has now been cleared of the disease.

With this positive development, Sierra Leoneans are optimistic that the epidemic could finally be grinding to a halt.
