Magistrate Abdul Sheriff of the Freetown Magistrate’s Court No. 7 on Monday, 6 November committed one Momodu Juma Barrie to the High Court for alleged sexual harassment of a 95-year-old woman.
The accused person was before the court on one count charge of sexual harassment contrary to Section 13 of the Sexual Offences Act 2017.
According to the Police Constable 8534 Sesay G., on Friday, 13 October, 2017 at No.18 Kroo Bay in Freetown, the accused harassed Ya-Fatu Mansaray, 95, for sexual gratification.
While committing the matter to the High Court, the magistrate said he was satisfied that accused has a case to answer at the High Court.
Earlier, police investigator Philipa P. Mansaray, attached to the Family Support Unit at the Centre Police Station, told the court that she was on duty when a complaint of alleged sexual harassment was made, adding that she obtained statement from two witnesses and the complainant in respect of the allegation.
She told the court that later that same day the accused person was brought into the police station by some youths and was questioned and charged to court with the offense of sexual harassment.
She tendered the voluntary caution statement of the accused as exhibit.
Meanwhile, the magistrate granted bail to the accused person in the sum of Le 40,000,000 (forty million Leones) and one surety who must be resident in Sierra Leone.
