Magistrate Albert J. Moody, presiding at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, has remanded one Ernest Brewa Jr. to the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown for alleged murder.
The accused is being tried on one count charge of murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Hawa Bah alleges that the accused on Wednesday, 6 September, 2017 at Valley View Point on Ferguson Street, in Freetown, murdered one Ibrahim Tarawally.
In her testimony, Detective Police Constable 11274 Jeminatu Finney, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Central Police Station, said she recognised the accused and recalled that on 6 September, 2017 a case of alleged murder was reported.
“I was on duty at CID department when a case of alleged murder was reported to me by one Alpha Jalloh. I was later given the mandate by my superiors to investigate it. A team of police officers were led by the complainant to visit the Connaught Hospital mortuary,” she testified.
She told the court that at the mortuary they saw injuries on the chest, neck and jaw of the deceased, adding that police officers were taken to the scene of crime where they saw blood marks on the ground and a brown knife, recalling that photographs were taken by DPC 14855 Bangura F.S at the scene of crime.
“DPC 14855 Bangura F.S arrested the accused and brought him to the CID. On the same date, he was interrogated and on 8 September, 2017, an autopsy was conducted on the remains of the deceased by Dr. Owizz Koroma in the presence of police officers and the complainant. The certificate of result was later issued to them,” she told the court.
“On 19 September, 2017 I and Detective Sergeant 7331 charged the accused to court for the offence of murder,” she added.

The matter was adjourned to 7 November.
