Alpha Kanu: De Apprentice

One of the flag-bearer aspirants of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) who was not selelcted by the party, Alpha Kanu, fondly called “De Apprentice” by his admirers, has vowed to maintain “De Apprentice Movement” despite losing the flag-bearer race to Dr. Samura Kamara.

While addressing his supporters after the announcement on Sunday, Alpha Kanu said the Chairman and Leader of the APC party, together with the National Advisory Council (NAC), have taken a decision.

“Even though the decision did not go in favour of what you were expecting, you should not be discouraged. You should take into consideration that among the 28 aspiring candidates, only one was expected to emerge victorious. But that does not mean that the 27 remaining aspirants could not make a difference. I want all of you to carry on with your projects because it is not the end of the road,” he admonished his numerous supporters who were very displeased with the decision to handpick Dr. Samura Kamara.

“We are not dissolving “De Apprentice Movement”; it will serve as a voluntary social mobilisation and advocacy network from now onwards. Anytime government has a program, or they want to talk to people from Freetown to Kurubola in Koinadugu district, all of you would be involved,” he said.

“De Apprentice” said even if someone had only been in the APC party for one week, that person is eligible to be appointed to any position, noting that seven days is a long time in politics.

“Despite the difficult moment for all of you, I am pleased that my family members were around to console me. Please go back to your homes and don’t feel discouraged or leave the party,” he said.
