Technical officials of Sierra Leone Volleyball Association (SLVA) has confirmed that they are on venue assessment task ahead of the hosting of the male and female African regional 2018 Commonwealth Games beach volleyball qualifiers.
Sierra Leone has been confirmed as the official host of the tournament, which is expected to attract 15 nations and with several venues in Freetown, officials of the local organizing group are keen to selecting either of the venues to be the tournament permanent host.
The newly built beach volleyball court at the Bishop House of the Siaka Stevens Stadium and the Aberdeen Beach Volleyball court are the two main venues high on the list to host the tournament.
“We will assess the various venues around before taking a final decision on where exactly we will play the tournament. We have several things to consider before selecting one of the venues. Hotels proximity, easy access from hotels to competition are some of the things to be considered,” said the country’s beach Volleyball director, Coach Sorie Kamara.
According to coach Kamara, the arrival date is October 25 to be preceded by technical meeting and press-briefing the following day. The tournament will kick-start from October 27 to 29 2017 with only a single team to book the only available qualification slot for Africa to the Gold Coast 2018.
The expected nations for the qualifiers are; Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia, are expected to converge in Freetown in October, 2017.
