Le10m bail for alleged land fraudster

Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court No.1, yesterday granted a bail of ten million Leones (Le10m) to one Junlor Akpon, who was charged on one count of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1861.

It was alleged that the accused  on 27th May, 2017, at 10 Bath Street in Freetown, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of three million four hundred thousand Leones (Le 3,400,000) from Peter Nwafor  by pretending to have a plot of land at the above address, knowing same to be false.

Defense Lawyer M.M.Tejan applied for bail on behalf of his client, quoting section 79 (3) (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1963 and added that he has a health conduction, which kept him in hospital for a while.

He added that his client will always be in court whenever the matter comes up.

Magistrate Bangura accepted the bail application made by the lawyer and granted the accused Le 10million and a surety in like sum, adding that the surety must be resident within the western area and be gainfully employed.

The matter was adjourned to 11th October, 2017.
