The Chinese medical team in Sierra Leone has on Friday, September 22, offered free medical treatment and donated toys & nutritious food to children that survived the August 14 flashfloods and mudslide disaster.
The donation took place at the Old School camp, Hill Station in Freetown.
Receiving the medical personnel and the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, team leader from the Office of National Security, Musu R. Arun Conteh, said they were very pleased with the attention the Chinese government gave Sierra Leone before and during the August 14 twin disaster.
She said the camp housed about 452 victims with 13 tents and that they were working to increase the number of tents at the centre, so that the other victims temporary stationed in schools would move to the centre.
She said seven tents housed men and boys of about twelve years while six housed women and children.
The commander of the Ark Peace Hospital Ship, General Guan Bailin, said they were in the country to offer free medical treatment to Sierra Leoneans, with special focus to flood victims.
“We are giving them free medical treatment and play them a documentary about the Chinese Ark peace hospital ship. We are open to the public. We have so far treated 3,000 patients in our hospital ship and have conducted about 22 surgeries. All these services are free,” he said.
The medics have already set up an open pharmacy, internal medicine, pediatrics and gynecology department at the camp.
Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wu Peng, said the bilateral relationship between the two countries would continue and that they continue to provide help to the flood victims
“We would continue to bring smiles to the faces of the children that lost their parents during the disaster and also those parents that lost their children,” he said.
