Impersonation lands man in jail

Magistrate Albert Moody of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 on Monday 18 September, 2017 remanded one Abdulrahman Mansaray to the Male Correctional Centre for an alleged impersonation.

The accused was before the court on three count charges of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretense and impersonation contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The particulars of offense stated that the accused sometime, towards the end of June, 2017, at 14 Amadu Lane, Lumley in Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to obtain money in the sum of five hundred thousand Leones (Le 500,000) from Hawa Macavoray by falsely pretending that they were sent by their boss; Bai Musa to disconnect and collect her meter in order to go and waive off the debt in the meter, knowing same to be false.

It was alleged that the accused person with intent to defraud, falsely pretend to be an employee of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and under  the colour of such defamed character, received 500,000 from Hawa.

In his testimony, Detective Police Constable 1516 Conteh A, attached to the Crime Right Exhibit Office at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stated that his duties include receiving and keeping  all exhibit records brought to the office.

He recognized the accused person and recalled on Friday 14 July, 2017, while on duty, he received one Segemcorn EDSA prepaid meter and meter card of the same serial number; 98000286595 as exhibit from DPC 6566 Karim J.M attached to the EDSA Unit.

There was no legal representation for the accused person.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor Inspector A.V. Bangura applied that the exhibit be returned to the rightful owner.

The matter was adjourned to 22 September, 2017.
