The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA), Francis Trevor Samura, has confirmed that the country’s national female team will compete in this year’s North West African T20 female championship in Banjul, The Gambia.

According to Samura, who was dilating on the international calendar for the national cricket teams, the women T20 will run from October 26-31.

The CEO revealed that training is already in progress and they are working towards selecting a formidable squad that will create a great impact in The Gambia.

“First and foremost, let me on behalf of SLCA welcome the government’s move to lift the restriction because it is not a secret that we suffered a lot due to the Ebola situation in the country,” Samura said.

“This is a message from us to others in Africa that we are on our way coming and our first mission is in Gambia and we are going to use that competition to send a message to the rest of Africa that Sierra Leone cricket is back again,” he added.

According to Samura, the end of 2015 calendar year and 2016 will be a busy schedule for Sierra Leone cricket as the senior national team will be competing in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Division II tournament in March, while the U-19s will do battle in the World Cup qualifiers in 2016.
