World football governing body, FIFA and the Confederations of African Football (CAF) have joined the international community to send in condolence messages to Sierra Leoneans for the recent mudslide and flood disaster in the country.
In a statement, the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, expressed his grief to people who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Infantino message reads: “It is with great sadness that we learned of the tragic mudslide which caused the death of hundreds of people and destroyed the lives of thousands more.
“On behalf of the international football community, I would like to join you in expressing my deepest sympathy to the families of the victims, the injured and those still missing as well as my solidarity with the people of Sierra Leone at this time of great mourning. Our thoughts are with all of the families and communities.”
The FIFA president hoped that their words of support may help bring the victims little peace and solace in this time of sadness.
Like the world football governing body president, the CAF boss, Ahmad Ahmad on behalf of himself and the African football family expressed their total solidarity and my overwhelming sense of sadness.
“Please kindly bring this message of commitment and solidarity to his Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and confirm that we share this great pain and moments of prayer and grieve of the population of our brother country and friend of Sierra Leone,” reads the CAF president message addressed to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) boss, Madam Isha Johansen.
