Sierra Leone Futbol net national team has on Tuesday July 25 presented their runners-up title and medal to the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE), after finishing second in the weeklong tournament in Ivory Coast.
Receiving the delegation at the NOC-SLE headquarters, acting President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone, Abdul Karim Sesay, applauded the successful team for their success, adding that they were pleased with success achieved.
He said the NOC-SLE will always be pleased with any Association who always go out and compete and return home with trophies or medals.
“I will re-emphasise here that the NOC-SLE is and will continue to support any Association who are ready and determine to bring laurels to this country,” the NOC-SLE acting president said.
The NOC-SLE Secretary General, Joseph Nyande, who was said to have been the key behind the Futbol Net project said they were happy to have seen the team from Sierra Leone returned with such success, adding that the OlympAfrica project has already started producing good result.
He said: “We are going to put this trophy with the team picture at the NOC-SLE museum so people will see the great work done in years to come. Don’t forget or relent in your effort and please continue to put more effort towards the development of the kids and the OlympAfrica project.”
The Technical Director for OlympAfrica Centre, who also doubles as leader of delegation for the Futbol Net team, Frank Turay gave an update of the team performance in the tournament and also cited the importance of the Futbol Net competition.
He said: “The Futbol Net is different; it allows the kids to develop their physical abilities and also helps them know the values and responsibilities while growing up. That is why the core values of the Futbol Net are commitment, respect, tolerance and responsibilities.”
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone Elizabeth Mansaray won the Gog as the best female player in the tournament.
