First division club, Me and my Boys FC will today July 26 commences a four -day fundraising football gala for the family of the late Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars goalkeeper, Alhaji Dauda Conteh, at the Mile End field, East End of Freetown.
Four teams- Premier Base, Kissy Strikers, Goalkeeper United and Sixties FC will battle in the said fund-raising tournament, while Me and My Boys FC will take on the tournament best IX in a friendly match which will precede the finals on July 29.
According to one of the organisers, Abdul Kamara, Premier Base and Kissy Strikers will battle in the opening match of the tournament with the winner progressing to the finals, while day two of the gala will involve an all goalkeeper side, Goalkeepers United taking on Sixties FC.
Conteh passed-away in a Freetown hospital following a short illness at age 25. He was part of the Leone Stars 18-man squad before their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations match against Kenya in June 2017, but was later dropped by the technical team the night before the match due to poor health.
The former shot-stopper played for both Fello Star de Labè and Ashanti Golden Boys de Siguiri in Guinean and also East End Lions, FC Kallon and Diamond Stars in Sierra Leone.
