All People’s Congress Party (APC) Member of Parliament representing Constituency 42, Hon.Mabinty Bangura, has on Monday (24th July,2017) testified before Magistrate Albert Moody of Court No.1, in an ongoing domestic violence matter involving her stepson, Ibrahim Kabia.
Kabia was charged with the offence of Domestic Violence contrary to Section 2 (1) of Domestic Violence Act of 2007.
The particulars of offence stated that the accused person on a date between 1st and 31st March, 2017, at No. 9 Kroo town Road, being in a domestic relationship with the complainant, to wit stepmother, economically abused her by allegedly misusing over one hundred million Leones.
Testifying before the Court, Hon. Mabinty recognised the accused person as her stepson and recalled a date between 1st and 31st July, 2017, when the accused visited her at home and explained certain issues relating to his occupation as electrician.
She told the court that she was engaged in a building project and decided to award a contract to the accused to electrify the building.
“He asked me to give him some money to buy cable and I gave him the sum of nine hundred thousand Leones (Le 900, 000) .He told me that he will help in electrifying the house as part of his own contribution because he is my stepson,” she said.
Hon. Bangura explained that she later handed him the keys to the store and put him in charge of all building materials, working alongside a caretaker, Musa Kanneh.
According to her, she gave the accused person the sum of five million Leones on two occasions to buy fifty bags of cement, but that the caretaker informed her that the latter bought only forty bags of cement.
Hon. Bangura stated that she requested that the accused hands over the store keys and that she later discovered that one set of toilet seat and tank, wash-hand basin, cartoons of tile, doors and other building materials were missing in the store.
The APC MP told the court that she gave the accused three laptop computers to fix and the sum of one million two hundred thousand Leones for electricity pole and other items that the accused person failed to produce.
She said the accused disappeared and later returned to her residence after three weeks, adding that she reported the matter to the Adelaide Street police and made statement.
The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Agnes Bangura and associated by State Counsel M Sesay, while the accused was represented by Lawyer S .M.Tarawally.
The matter was adjourned to 1st August, 2017.
