Magistrate Albert Moody of Freetown court No.2 yesterday (Wednesday 5th July, 2017) slammed fifty million Leones (Le50m) bail and two sureties in like sum on  one Chernor Barrie, who was charged with two counts of conspiracy and robbery with aggravation.

The bail conditions continued that, each surety should produce two passport photos and that one of the sureties must be a resident in Western Area and must be gainfully employed.

The prosecution had alleged that on Friday 28th April, 2017, the accused conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit robbery with aggravation.

The prosecution also stated that on the same date, the accused,  being armed with bottle, did rob Steven Bangura, one private motor bike with registration number AGF 730 valued seventeen million, seven hundred and fifty six thousand Leones (Le17, 756,000,000), property of Anti-Corruption Commission in custody of the complainant.

Defence Lawyer, Julian Cole, renewed his application for bail, stating that the continuous detention of the accused person seemed to fetter his innocence.

He pleaded with the Bench to grant bail to the accused person, because he was not a flight risk, adding that he has been on police bail for over three months before the matter was charged to court.

Lawyer J. Cole pledged his client’s corporation and commitment until the matter was concluded.

Inspector S. Conteh objected to the application on the grounds that the accused person was charged with conspiracy.

However, it was not clear if the accused person met the bail condition before going to press, but the matter was adjourned to Wednesday 13th July, 2017 for further hearing.
