Gwent Height Women declare support for Pel Koroma

History is about to be made as Pel Koroma, who is aspiring for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) symbol to contest in the 2018 parliamentary election, is gaining the hearts, minds and souls of electorates in Constituency 110, Western Urban.

He was on Sunday at the Gwent Height community along Yazbeck, Wilberforce, where he doled out scholarships to 20 vulnerable pupils from various schools, as well launched the Gwent Height Progressive Women Organisation.

“We are ready to support Mr.Pel Koroma for the position of Member of Parliament. He is honest, down-to-earth and always ready to render assistance to the needy. We have declared our support for him because he has a better plan for us the women,” Chairlady, Gwent Height Progressive Women Organisation, Aminata Bangura.

The membership of the organization has vowed to throw their weight behind Pel Koroam, who they fondly refer to as Uncle Pel.

In his brief statement, Chairman, Gwent Height Local Police Partnership Board, highlighted some of the challenges the community is grappling with, including poor road network, lack of pipe borne water and community health Centre.

He called on the aspiring Member of Parliament to assist the community in that drive, assuring the community’s unflinching support to ensure that he does not only receives party symbol but also wins the election.

Addressing the mammoth and jubilant gathering, Pel Koroma narrated his experience, having survived the harsh reality of life through the help of a Limba friend, a humane Loko woman and a Temne lady, thus calling on all to shelve tribalism, which, he said has no space in Sierra Leone.

Having lost her mother for some years now, Pel Koroma promised to work for women to “appease the soul of my late mother.

He told the gathering that, “I will not promise you now but am appealing that you give me political authority to represent you and enable me educate the young ones.

The SLPP aspiring Member of Parliament emphasised the importance of education for all, noting that “the APC has not done us good at all and political philosophy teaches me that you vote out whosoever do not serve you well.

“I want you to try me. I don’t have money but if you help me, I will meet you one day,” he said.

He reiterated the need for people to shelve tribalism and work as a nation state to enhance development.

“I have other dreams and vision but the country would not develop if we do not work as one,” he said, calling on the people to vote not only him but the SLPP and Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, come 2018.

“Please support Maada Bio and vote for him. I beg that you forgive him for whatever he had done in the past,” he said.

He vowed to change the common notion that Freetown is a stronghold for the APC, noting that “I am here to help you not withstanding your tribe, region or political affiliation. We are all one and we should work together for the betterment of Sierra Leone.

Mr. Koroma is no stranger to the grassroot in the constituency and his affinity with them has yielded a lot of dividend in his political sojourn. He has garnered a lot of support from electorates through his closeness with the grassroot, respect for humanity and humane character. By all indications, he is destined to make history as he has gained support in all nook and cranny of the Constituency, cutting across all political inclinations.
