Community members along Spur Loop, Wilberforce, are currently battling in court with former Sierra Leone Ambassador to China, Joseph M. Koroma, over a plot of land allotted to the community for the construction of access road connecting the entire community.
According to documents in possession of Concord Times, the Ministry of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment and the Ministry of Works, Housing and Infrastructure had granted a 15ft State land for the community to construct access road, but the said development has been impeded by the former Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to China.
According to community members, Joseph M.Koroma is insisting that the community should not construct an access road close to his house, which is occupied by a diplomat.
In a letter dated 3rd April, 2017, the Ministry of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment stated that: “The land is granted gratis (meaning that no fees will be paid for it).The land (15 feet) is to be utilized as access road to serve members of the community.
After several controversies, the Ministry of Lands conducted a site inspection and recommended that there was a need for access road to be constructed for community members to have easy access to their different homes.
Although, Mr. Koroma could not be reached by this medium after several telephone calls, the matter is said to be heard at the Magistrate No 3 in Freetown.
Meanwhile, community members are demanding justice, stating that they would totally be cut off from other parts of the city, if they the access road is not constructed.
