Charlie Williams making a brief statement in front of the donated bags of rice yesterday
Charlie Williams, popularly called Charliesco, has donated 85 bags of 50 kilograms of rice and money to Muslims in 58 mosques, the police, officials of Fire Force and All People’s Congress (APC) District Executive, as well as Constituencies 99 and 100 Executives in Kissy, Freetown.
Charliesco, who is an aspiring candidate for the March 7, 2018 parliamentary election under the ticket of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party in the newly formed constituency 118 in Kissy, is the proprietor of Charliesco Group of Companies, which includes Charliesco Cleaning Company, Charliesco Security Company and Charliesco Car Rental.
Making a brief statement before handing over the bags of rice and envelopes containing money to the recipients, Charlie Williams, said the donation was the third he has done within the month of Ramadan in Constituency 100, which is now Constituency 118.
He said it is good to give zakat (alms) to Muslims, especially at this time of the Islamic calendar.
“As an aspiring candidate for the parliamentary seat in Constituency 118, I am following the good work of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who’s the Chairman and Leader of the governing All People’s Congress (APC) party. I will continue to contribute in my own way to the development that my leader has been doing,” he said.
He disclosed that during the Ebola outbreak, he was supplying water to quarantine homes and in areas where people were finding it difficult to access clean and safe drinking water.
Sheik Abu Fofana, one of those whose mosque benefited from the donation, said Charliesco is indeed a friend in need, adding that even though he has not attained any political position in the constituency, he has been doing lots of things that their current parliamentary representative has never done.
He noted that Charliesco has installed water tanks in some areas in the constituency in order to help people get easy access to water in the dry season.
Mariatu Kargbo, another beneficiary, said what Charliesco has been doing in the Kissy community, particularly in Constituency 100, was out of his own pocket and nowhere else, noting that even their Councilors and Member of Parliament, who have been getting money from government’s fund have not done much for them.
“Feeding us at this time of the Islamic calendar, especially when prices of food stuff are ever skyrocketing, is highly appreciated,” she said.
Police and Fire Force officers, among other beneficiaries, expressed their thanks and appreciation to Charlie Williams for the support.
