Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou, on Thursday, May 18, gave 24-hrs ultimatum to the newly appointed and unveiled coaches of the Sierra Leone senior national team, Leone Stars and the home-based national team.
In a strong statement, the Sports Minister asked each and every appointed coach to submit not less than two pages motivational letter to be summited on his desk within 24 hours.
“In the next 24 hours, you all need to send in not less than two pages motivational letter, because this will be used to judge your work,” Minister Khanou said.
“The long quest to see homegrown coaches lead the national team is now over. You must see this as a challenge and it is a challenge you must face with all might and integrity. Take the bull by the horn and help qualify the team to the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon,” the Sports Minister said.
President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Isha Johansen, who congratulated the coaches, said they should consider their appointment not for themselves but for the entire nation, adding that their tasks and responsibilities were for the seven million Sierra Leoneans.
Despite not disclosing details of the coaches’ contract, the Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura, admitted that the new coaches will all be treated the same like the foreign coaches.
“These coaches will all be treated the same like the foreign coaches we have had,” Bangura said.
