Gold Coast 2018 Queen’s Baton arrived to a warm welcome at Lungi International Airport in Sierra Leone on Wednesday, with enormous interest from locals, sports administrators, government officials and sports fans.
The Baton delegation was received by representatives of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), the Paramount Chief of Kaffu Bullom, Bai Shebora Sheba Gbereh and officials of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority after the flight carrier touched down at the Airport.
A cultural display and short ceremony was hosted at the Airport before the delegation moved to Aberdeen where it was also welcomed by the President of Commonwealth Games Association (CGA), Dr. Patrick Coker, who also doubles as President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE).
Meanwhile, today Thursday, 16th March, 2017, the relay will start in Freetown at the Freetown City Council around 10 A.M, meeting Mayor Bode Gibson and then head to Standard Chartered Bank.
From the bank, the Baton will then travel to State House, the National Museum and other places.
A further visitation will be made on Friday with top athletes from various sporting disciplines as the Baton will take a move around Freetown and Fourah Bay College.
