Members of parliament on Wednesday (December 7) approved Professor Kabineh Koroma and Professor Durodami Radcliffe Lisk as board Chairmen of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority(EDSA) and the Sierra Leone Council for Post-Graduate Colleges of Health Specialists.
Other presidential nominees were also approved by the house to serve as board members in various institutions.
Prof. Kabineh has over twenty years of successful academic career in lectureship, teaching and training in Africa and the United States of America. He also has a rich background in a wide range of business undertakings, including geotechnical consultancy and social enterprises in Europe and Africa.
Responding to probing questions on his strategies to solve electricity problem in the country, Dr. Kabineh said: “I think the best way to do is for me to help provide the leadership not only to EDSA but the Energy ministry as well. The government has set itself to achieve laudable goals within a specified deadline and I am sure that if I obtain the blessing of the house, I will draw on my wealth of experience for the success of this institution. I promise to do my best.”
Also, Prof. Lisk has an enormous wealth of board experience and a long academic and medical publication to his name, having served as a consultant Neurologist to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Coordinator, Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) U.K and unpaid visiting Professor of the College of Medicine and Allied Sciences respectively.
During his interview in parliament, Prf. Lisk opined that Sierra Leone has never had the opportunity to train its own medical specialists. He revealed that Post-graduate training of Surgeons, Physicians, Gynecologists and Pediatricians had all been done abroad.
“Firstly, many of those sent abroad for training do not comeback and we are losing many trained specialists to the United States, United Kingdom and other first world countries. The cost involved in post-graduate training abroad is a major drain on government resources,” he said.
The other nominees includes Kalilu O. Bah and Ada Conteh as board members of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ibrahim M. Kabia as board member-Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission, Amadu Dumbuya and Edwatrd Komeh as board members-Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority, and Edward Yarrimeh Kamara as board member of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA).
