The International Security Advisory Team (ISAT) in partnership with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the United States Department has completed an intensive training on Public Order Command for commanders of the Sierra Leone Police force.

The training at the ISAT office on Hill Station in Freetown was aimed at assisting the SLP in developing their response to public order incidents and management of large groups of people or protest in an appropriate, proportionate and necessary manner with minimal use of force. During the training, participants were also given a clear and considerable decision making model to use.

Also, the strategic vision for the training exercise was for the police force to progress their own training, with their own trainers.

Civil Society representatives were in attendance to observe the training and provide feedback on the process, while commanders from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) were also present to gain an insight and appreciation of the Police processes in dealing with public order.

In total, there are now twelve (12) strategic Gold Commanders, twenty-Four (24) tactical Silver Commanders and Seventy Two (72) Operational Bronze commanders trained.

The climaxed of the training saw the distribution of certificates to the trainees at the ISAT office, Hill Station.
