UBA CFO, Finance team shines at CFOs Awards

For outstanding good leadership in the banking sector, the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group’s  Chief Finance Officer, Ugo Nwaghodoh, and team has for the second time won the 2nd Edition of Nigeria Chief Finance Officer Awards  2016.   

The bank won the Chief Finance Officer of the year, Financial Innovation Project of the year and Finance Team of the year (Gold) beating Vodacom and AXA Mansard to silver and bronze position respectively.

Mr. Nwaghodoh, was ahead of other nominees in the banking category, including; FirstBank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank and Guarantee Trust Bank, to emerge CFO of the year.

The Finance team of the year was also given to the finance division of UBA for their exceptional handling of the bank’s finances in the year under review, which the organizer says  resulted in the bank’s  emerging as one of the top performers in the Nigerian banking industry despite the economic downturn.

Receiving the award   on November  19 2016 at Oriental Hotel, Lekki Lagos, UBA’s CFO, thanked the organizers for the recognition, noting that he couldn’t have done it alone and that he was delighted to be working with the best finance team in the Nigerian banking industry.

 He dedicated the awards to his team who he said worked assiduously to ensure that the bank’s operations run smoothly and further that achieving a feat like that at a challenging period, only indicated that hard work and dedication truly pays.

Also speaking at the awards night,  Chief Executive Officer of Instinct Business magazine, Organisers of the CFO awards, Akin Naphtal, explained that a CFO’s role in risk management cannot be over emphasized.

 He explained that they were integral to the successes of the bank as their expansive financial perspectives helped fuel growth, hence they believe that the achievements of financial executives who have been outstanding in their profession and have contributed in no small measure to the growth of their organizations and the economy at large, must be recognized and celebrated.

The successful awards night was well attended by dignitaries including Chief Finance Officers from different industries- banking, Insurance, Telecoms, Pharmaceuticals, Construction, Investment Banking, Media broadcast, Conglomerate, Logistics and transport, and Public sector across Nigeria with many lauding the organizers for the rare initiative.

Mr. Nwaghodoh, UBA’s GCFO is a seasoned financial analyst and accountant with about two decades experience spanning assurance, advisory, financial control, strategy and business transformation, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, business integration and project management.
