Six-year-old Adama Conteh of No. 21 First Street, Looking Town in the east end of Freetown, on Wednesday told a Freetown Magistrates’ Court that her mother poured hot oil on her two hands because of Le90,000.
Whiles testifying before Magistrate Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, presiding at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrates’ Court N0.1, the victim told the court that she was at home together with her aunt Amie on 25 September 2016 when her mother returned from town and went into the house.
She told the court that when the accused came out of the house, she claimed that her Le90,000 had got missing.
The witness testified in court that her aunt told her mother that she took the money.
“Immediately after my aunt told my mother that I was the one who took the money, she went and brought some oil, heat it and poured it on my two hands,” she said in tears.
The victim stated that her mother subsequently took her to one Mr. Samura who administered first-aid treatment to her, before she was taken to the Kissy Police Post, where a statement was obtained from her.
She narrated that she was issued with a medical paper for further treatment.
The accused was charged with one count of child cruelty, contrary to law.
Defence counsel J.N. Jenego applied for bail on behalf of the accused person, who he said was breadwinner of two kids.
Magistrate Binneh-Kamara granted the accused bail in the sum of Le20 millions plus one surety in like sum. He added that the surety must be a resident of the Western Area and must produce a National Identity Card.
The matter was adjourned to 1st December, 2016 for further hearing.
