The presiding magistrate at the Magistrates’ Court No.2 o Siaka Stevens Street, Albert J. Moody, last Friday (4 November) sentenced three accused persons to two years imprisonment or an alternative fine of Le200,000 each for being found within a place used for smoking cannabis sativa.

The convicts – Osman Sesay, Ishmael Kamara and Sidiqui Kamara – were before the court on a count’s charge of being found at a place used for smoking cannabis sativa, contrary to Section 49(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act 2011.

The prosecution had alleged that the accused persons on Sunday, 30 October, 2016 at Locust Street in Freetown, were found loitering around the said place.

The accused had pleaded guilty as charged on their first appearance in court and pleaded with the magistrate to temper justice with mercy, promising that they would not repeat the act.

All three are expected to pay the alternate fines.
