One Michael Jackson, erstwhile police officer who allegedly sodomised a sixteen-year boy who was in his custody, has been put on Le100 million bail, with one surety in like sum.
The bail was granted after Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara following the completion of preliminary investigations into the matter and subsequent committal to the High Court for further trial.
The accused was before the court on a count’s charge of sexual penetration, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Wednesday, 20 July, 2016 at the Wilberforce Police Post, engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a boy child under the age of 18, to wit 16 years.
In his ruling, Magistrate Binneh-Kamara stated that the prosecution called three witnesses and that the evidence adduced before the court was sufficient to warrant a committal to the High Court.
“I have gone through the evidence in this matter and I am satisfied that the accused have questions to answer with regards the offences charge. I therefore commit this matter to the High Court for further trial,” he ruled.
When put on his election, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and opted to call witnesses in the upper court.
