Former Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flag bearer aspirant in the 2012 general elections, Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, has been officially endorsed by membership  of the party in the eastern region for the position of Chairman and Leader, ahead of the National Delegates Conference.

Dr. Manyeh was in the district to meet with party executives and share his leadership aspirations with them.

His visit to the party office on Hangha Road in Kenema   was a high mark as hundreds of supporters came out in their numbers to give him a befitting welcome.

The party’s membership also accompanied Dr. Manyeh to the Central Mosque in Kenema where he performed the Friday prayers.

Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Alhaj Zaki Waganeh,  said the visit was first in history for them to have  received a high profile personality from the SLPP, adding that they would pray for success for Dr. Manyeh.

SLPP District Chairman, Yankuba Nyallay, said they have long waited for Dr. Manyeh and his team, adding that he was happy to have received them at the SLPP regional office.

He said the party office was open to every member of SLPP, which was the more reason they came out in their numbers to show solidarity with him and assure him of their support.

Young Generation Leader, Mohamed Sesay, said SLPP needs people like Dr. Manyeh to liberate the party and that the latter’s visit had given them more strength to give their diligent services to the party, adding that Dr. Manyeh’s experience would create a positive impact on the opposition party.

“I want to endorse you on behalf of the SLPP members in this part of the country as our next Chairman and Leader,” he stated.

While addressing worshipers and party members, Dr.   Manyeh said he would be contesting for the position of Chairman and Leader as the sole unifier that would take the SLPP to victory come 2018, and promised the Muslim congregation that he would bring peace and stability that the party badly needed.

During a live broadcast on Eastern Community Radio,  hundreds of residents commended Dr. Manyeh for his commitment to ensuring that the SLPP stood out as a family to challenge the ruling All Peoples Congress( APC).

They claimed that government has neglected them in the implementation of developmental programmes.

Manyeh assured them that with him as Chairman and Leader of the party, he would ensure that the SLPP returned to governance and propel development across Sierra Leone.

“SLPP belongs to all of us, but it is only unity that will take us to State House. I am the most qualified for this position because I have worked with the Bishop Humper peace team to bring peace and unity to the party. I was an aspirant for the position of flag bearer during the 2012 elections but since I knew then that people loved Maada Bio, I supported him,” he said.

“I have never moved to any other political party. I came from the eastern region, specifically Kono. A good number of them want to come over to the SLPP but they are concerned that their interest should be protected. During my recent visit to Kono, I promised my people that I will unify the party and also bring positive transformation in the SLPP”

He added that the motive behind his aspiration was to ensure a united SLPP where everybody would be onboard to collectively work towards the values of the party.

“My people in Kono and Kenema have promised not only to support me but to join me in bringing SLPP back to power in 2018, if elected as Chairman and Leader of the party. We need a decisive figure to lead the part at this point in time. We need somebody that could easily cut across and has the credibility and moral compass to lead a part as big as the SLPP,” he concluded.
