The murder trial involving one Alfred Koroma, who allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Sia Nyuma, has commenced at the High Court before Justice Alusine Sesay.
State Prosecutor J.A.K. Sesay asked the court for an adjournment on the grounds that he was yet to have conference with his witnesses.
Alfred Koroma, 25, allegedly murdered Sia Nyuma, 21, on Sunday February 7, 2016 at No.5 Cassava Farm, Juba Hill, in Freetown. He has been in detention since his arrest earlier this year.
Earlier, the Appeal Court Judge expressed concern over the paucity of jurors, stating that they were relatively few, which he said delays trials.
He said the role of the court was to administer justice to litigants without delay, and that the non-availability of jurors undermines that.
“It is very frustrating when the court officials are present with jurors not around. Most of these matters have taken five years in court without trial and justice delayed is justice denied,” he averred.
Meanwhile, twelve jurors have been empaneled to determine seven murder matters before Justice Sesay.
He has adjourned all the matters to 7 and 11 November, 2016.
