October 20, 2016 By Regina Pratt
Alie Kabbah, who is standing trial at the High Court on three counts of bigamy and perjury, would reportedly take the witness stand and testify when the defense commences their ‘no case submission.’
Mr. Kabbah is one of several aspirants to lead the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the 2018 presidential election.
State Prosecutor A.G.M. Bockarie yesterday told the High Court, presided over by Justice Miatta Samba, that they were closing their case and that no more witnesses would be called by them to testify in the matter.
He informed the trial judge that four prosecution witnesses – Detective Police Constable 9389 Mansaray S., Madam Haja Mariama Serray Kallay, Administrator-General, Arthur Will, and Dr. George John Komba-Kono – would no longer testify in the matter.
He said the accused was brought before the court by way of an application of consent in writing to the judge, adding that an order of consent in writing by the court for the preferment of three counts indictment of bigamy, making false declaration on license to marry and making false statement on oath were issued.
Meanwhile, the accused told Hon. Justice Samba that he would take the witness stand and testify on oath.
One of his defence counsel, Ibrahim Kanneh, intimated the court that he would be making an oral ‘no case submission’, but Justice Samba overruled and ordered that that a written submission be made for record purposes.
She set the date for the submission for 2nd November, while the prosecution should address the court on 16th November, 2016.
