Musa Abdulai Kamara, a Road Safety Corps officer, was yesterday arraigned at the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1, presided over by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, for an alleged public insult on Assistant Director of Immigration, Alie Thomas Kamara.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Thursday, 14th July, 2016 at the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) office, along Pademba Road in Freetown, rained insulting words on Alie Thomas Kamara.
However, lead defense counsel E.T. Koroma applied for the accused person to be put on bail. He said the accused was doing his duty in the interest of the state and that if granted bail, he accused would not flee the jurisdiction.
He informed the court that the accused had been in custody since he was arrested.
But Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Samuel Kamara, objected to bail and stated that though the Police and Road Safety Corps have good relationship, the accused was in the habit of insulting public officials.
His objection notwithstanding, Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara granted the accused a bail in the sum of Le30 million and two sureties who must produce their national identity cards and evidence of being owners of a house within the jurisdiction of Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 17th October, 2016 when the prosecution is expected to open their case.
