-Minister Vows

Sierra Leone’s Sports Minister, Ahmed Khanou has on Tuesday expressed his determination and vowed to make sports as the most important sector in the country.
With barely a month to go for the country’s National Sports Conference in Makeni, the Sports Minister said they as ministry were ready to give a different looks towards thesports sector in the country, adding that the signs were already shown towards that direction.
He said: “No sport is irrelevant. Everysport we are practicing in this country has an impact and important role to play in individual lives and the society. That is why our ministry is now creating a level playing field for everybody to operate.
“We are not going back to the old days and sports have to deliver on its principles and values that is why we are ready and determine to make it the most important sector in the country. Already we are seeing the signs and stride the ministry is making.”
Minister Khanou further revealed that already the sporting disciplines are gearing towards the developmental pathway and that they were ready to shoulder sporting bodies’ responsibility towards a new sporting sector.
Meanwhile, the National Sports Development Conference which was earlier slated for 28th – 30th July, 2016 on the theme ‘Repositioning Sports for Sustainable Development’ will now be staged on November 2-4 in Makeni.
The main aim of the conference is to promote an integrated approach to sports development in Sierra Leone, focused on institutional reforms, infrastructure development and strategic planning and partnerships, among others. The conference will also help evaluate progress made and gaps in the implementation of the National Sports Policy, the anti-doping framework and the National Sports Council Act from a development perspective.
