The Sierra Leone State Lottery yesterday presented a newly constructed security post to the Milton Margai School for the Blind to accommodate security officials detailed at the school’s facility at Wilkinson Road, west of Freetown.

State Lottery officials say the security post cost over Le15 million and could reduce the incidence of robbery at and trespass on the facility, following several reports of thieves breaking into the facility.

The last security post at the school was erected in 1995 but was demolished by Chinese road construction workers few years ago.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Managing Director of State Lottery, Charles Kamara, praised students at the facility for their skills and talents, adding that the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility which is primed towards delivering quality health and education nationwide.

Kamara said theirs was a new administration and that the donation was just the beginning of a partnership with the Milton Margai School for the Blind, noting that they would soon provide furniture for the security post and refurbish some areas inside the school and the dormitory.

Principal of the school, Didimus T. Kargbo, expressed satisfaction over the construction of the security post and the entrance slop which has been fixed, after the latter was damaged by cars and caused injuries to some students.

He urged the State Lottery team not to relent in providing support to the school as they had made several donations to them in the past.

“What we need is just love and smiles from the public and authority, and that will make us conquer our dreams,” he said.

Chairman of the ceremony, Malcolm Kpana, himself a blind academic, urged the company to employ blind people as most of his colleagues are unemployed and suffer hardship as a result.
