Sierra Leone’s leading Sports Betting and Lottery Company, Mercury International, on Tuesday, 20th August, 2016 paid the total sum of one hundred and two million, eight hundred and thirty thousand, two hundred Leones (Le 102, 830,200) to its sixth 4/50 Jackpot winner, who declined to be named.
In a colourful and well-attended ceremony, the lucky winner, who declined to reveal his identity for personal reasons, was presented with a dormy cheque at the company’s headquarter at Krootown Road in Freetown.
According to Alhaji Komba, the company’s Public Relations Officer, they were pleased to see more winners emerge in the 4/50 jackpot because the games was introduced to help the fight against poverty in the country.
“We are happy to see the sixth winner of the Jackpot since the launching of the game in March this year,” he said.
The company’s Managing Director, Martin Michael, said the 4/50 Jackpot was now a popular game among their customers and that even non-customers are now eager to be part of it. He further revealed that it was the company’s dream to make people millionaire everyday through the unique Jackpot game, adding that the company would be introducing more products within few more days.
Chairman of Mercury International Charitable Foundation, Samir Hassanyeh, who presented the cheque to the lucky winner, advised him to invest the money wisely and increase his financial status.
The winner, in a brief remark, said he was pleased to have won the jackpot, adding that he seldom forecast like others do before playing. “I always select numbers randomly whenever I play and only stake a total of Le 20,000 for different tickets.”
Meanwhile, the sum of eleven million three hundred and sixty-nine thousand Leones (Le 11, 369,000), representing 10 percent of withholding tax was paid to the National Revenue Authority.
