A consortium led by Eiffage Génie Civil has won a design-build contract to expand a container terminal in Sierra Leone, according to The Construction Index website.

The €47m (£40m) project for Freetown Terminal’s subsidiary Bolloré Transport & Logistics involves the construction of a new 270m quay to accommodate vessels with a draught of 13m.

A subsidiary of the French company Bolloré Transport & Logistics, Bollore Africa Logistics in Sierra Leone, currently manages the container terminal at the port of Freetown, the third largest natural harbour in the world.

Eiffage, one of France’s leading construction and civil engineering groups, will be backed by sister company RMT, which specialises in electrical engineering and process automation, and Bellsea, a subsidiary of Belgium’s Deme group specialising in marine and dredging works, says the website.

“The quay wall consists of a combi-wall system with piles and sheet-piles and re-inforced concrete capping. The project will involve 260,000m³ of dredging works, 650,000m³ of land reclamation, 50,000m² of road construction, 12,000m³ of reinforced concrete and a power plant,” said the website, adding that work is expected to be completed within 24 months.
